Choose a region to see the decisions behind the scenery.
02 / Follow the right season
Choose the month. Then check the region.
There is no single best month for all of Chile. Use this seasonal lens before falling in love with a route.
Seasonal guidance is not a weather forecast or a promise of access. Review park restrictions, flight schedules, lodge opening dates and event calendars for your actual year.
03 / Make the distances count
Build a trip. Not an airport collection.
Choose your nights and priorities. This tool will tell you when the combination needs more time instead of squeezing everything in.
Which regions matter most?
Editorial starting points only. No live availability or flight schedules are checked. Santiago nights are connection allowances, and the direction of travel must be checked against actual flights. International travel days are additional.
Three questions before buying flights
Does the flight connect with the lodge’s transfer window? What happens if a separately ticketed flight is delayed? How many hours remain at the destination after the transfer?
04 / Details worth getting right
Less guesswork. Better days on the ground.

Entry + arrival paperwork
For U.S. tourist-passport holders, current guidance allows visa-free visits of up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid throughout your stay with a blank page per stamp. Confirm the rule for your own nationality, transit countries and travel date. Keep your tourist entry record accessible; check separate documentation if traveling with children.
Declare food, plants and animal products
Chile takes agricultural entry controls seriously. Complete the SAG declaration accurately, including qualifying food, plant and animal products. A sealed snack or souvenir is not automatically exempt. Declare when unsure and let the inspector decide what may enter.
Rapa Nui has its own checklist
Complete the FUI and have return travel plus authorized accommodation documents ready before boarding. Ordinary tourist stays are limited to 30 consecutive days. Separately arrange a park ticket and an authorized local guide for regulated archaeological visits. Confirm current prices, validity and site rules rather than relying on the old PDF’s dollar figure.
Torres del Paine: entry is not the whole reservation
The park’s reservation guidance requires entry tickets at least 24 hours in advance. Multi-day W and O routes also require accommodation reservations. Check current trail access, guide requirements and seasonal restrictions. Boat departures and excursion operations remain weather dependent.
Domestic flights + the last mile
Compare the entire journey: hotel pickup, airport time, flight, bags and the road transfer after landing. For Patagonia, compare the operating flights into Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas against your actual lodge transfer. For Atacama, account for the onward transfer from Calama. Verify airline baggage conditions before buying separate tickets.
Lodge inclusions: read the rate
An all-inclusive label does not settle whether guiding is private or shared. Confirm excursions, transfers, meals, drinks, park fees, equipment, minimum stays, arrival windows and any exclusions in the quoted program. Compare the total trip cost, not only the nightly room rate.
Weather, altitude + a workable backup
Keep room for a changed excursion. In Atacama, allow a gentle start and choose altitude exposure with professional advice. In Patagonia, carry appropriate layers and follow local guide decisions. Ask your insurer about hiking, altitude, remote assistance and disruption cover for your actual activities.
Safety + staying connected
Review current government travel and health guidance. Plan reputable transport, keep belongings attended and avoid demonstrations. Save lodging addresses, confirmations and emergency contacts offline. Confirm connectivity at remote lodges and tell someone your hiking plans.
Entry rules and access details reviewed October 19, 2026. Confirm current requirements with the relevant authority for your own trip.
05 / What are you actually booking?
The lodge is part of the itinerary.
These examples explain different travel styles. They are not a price ranking or a promise of perks, room availability or inclusions.
Private guiding is the point
Awasi Patagonia
The property publishes a private guide and 4x4 assigned to each room. Useful when different walking speeds, interests or energy levels make a fixed group schedule a poor fit. Confirm your exact program and room arrangement.
On Lake Pehoé, with a guided exploration program designed for small groups. Compare the daily activities and physical demands; a lodge stay does not imply a private guide for every outing.
The lodge reopened after a major 2025 renovation. Treat it as a fresh comparison, not an automatically less expensive alternative. Check room type, excursion format and the inclusions in the current offer.
A Lastarria base near cultural and dining options. Consider the length of the stopover, airport transfer and preferred evening plans before deciding whether to stay in the city.
A tasting, a long lunch and the drive back need to fit together. Choose the valley and transport before filling the day with reservations.
For a tasting-menu evening in Santiago, check dietary needs, current operating days and timing. Keep it off your most uncertain transfer day.
A lodge meal plan can simplify remote travel, but confirm what is included in your actual rate.
